They took on eighth seeded Mora first, and the Mustangs barely broke 15 points in their match. The Vikings won 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16.
Lydia Langevin led the Vikings with eight kills and Cianna Selbitschka had six. Paige Sheehan had 18 assists and she has assumed the full time setter role for the Vikings.
North Branch got to give their starters a little bit of a rest against the overmatched Mustangs.
The Vikings followed that performance with a dominating sweep of fourth seeded Esko in the second round of sections, winning 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.
Selbitschka led the Vikings with 14 kills and Reagan Irons had nine. Langevin and Haley Hadrava both added four kills. Sheehan had 27 assists on the night as the Vikes had work just a bit harder to earn points in this match.
The win puts them on a crash course with the second seeded Hermantown Hawks, the second seed in the north subsection. If they are able to beat the Hawks in Cloquet on Halloween night, they’ll move on to the section championship to play either Duluth Denfeld or Greenway.
