What a turnout - so glad it's over with, Veterans Day deserves our thanks

I hope you had a chance to get out and vote on Tuesday.  “You can’t complain if you didn’t vote” is such an overused cliche, but the meaning isn’t.  It is us who decide who runs our country, our county, our city, our township, and our school board.  Hopefully the new crop or the newly elected individuals can find a way to work together with the other side instead of this sickening infighting we have seen over the last year or two.

Congratulations to the all the men and women who won their races in the election.  I have mentioned it a couple of times, but it was so refreshing to have civil, respectful campaigns locally.  The state races we were subjected to were absolutely disgusting.

Now that the election is over, it’s time to have some fun.  How about a nice game of bingo with friends and family?  The Center City Fire Department would love for you to come and play bingo with them Friday night.  They are hosting their annual cash bingo at the newly renovated fire hall (behind the Pizza Pub). Bingo begins at 7 p.m. and snacks and refreshments are available.

This Sunday is a very important day in our country. It is Veterans Day, the day we get to honor those men and women who have and are currently serving our great country in the armed services.  I have a deep rooted love for veterans, especially the awesome ones that live here in Chisago County.  A million thank you’s wouldn’t be enough to properly recognize these men and women who put our safety before their lives.  If you know a Veteran, please make a point to thank them.

If you are a Veteran, there are a couple of events that I hope you can take part in.  Friday (tomorrow), you are invited to the Taylors Falls Fire Department for lunch and coffee.  The event actually begins with Veterans meeting students at TF Elementary School at 10 a.m. for coffee and cookies.  At 11 a.m., the fire department will host a great lunch at the fire hall where Veterans and spouses are invited for a free meal.  They would love it if you could join them.

On Sunday, all Veterans are invited for a free dinner at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.  The meal begins at 3:30 p.m. and runs until 5:30 p.m. and will feature wonderful food, great company and no speeches. The meal is put on by American Legion Posts 83 and 272 along with VFW Post 1678.  They have been doing the meal for 17 years now and would love to have you join them.

As we draw near to Thanksgiving (I can’t believe I am saying that), there is something to keep in mind.  First off, if you are going to be alone this Thanksgiving - don’t be.  There is a free Thanksgiving meal held at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.  The meal is free and absolutely wonderful. All they ask is you call 651-257-6300 to reserve your spot(s).
