My wife and I had the good fortune to help serve at the Veterans Day Dinner on Sunday.  The dinner was put on by around 20 volunteers as a thank you to local Veterans and their familes, for their dedication and service to our great country.  The meal (made by LeRoy Mitchell and Emma Lundeen) was amazing and the crowd of over 170 Veterans and their familes seemed to be having a great time.  It was such a great experience to show our local Vets how much they mean to us and to serve them for once.  I know that Veterans’ Day has come and gone, but there is never a bad time to thank a Veteran for their service to our country.  In line at the grocery store, at a restaurant, at a gas station, anywhere will work. It is not embarassing or awkward, just tell them thank you - they will know exactly what you are talking about.

This weekend the Chisago Lakes High School Theater Club has an event for you and your family.  They are proud to invite you and all of your friends to this year’s musical Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”  The show is filled with eye catching colors, humor and some wonderful singing.  The cast and crew always do such a great job.  If you enjoy musicals or if you have children, this is the show for you.  The show runs Thursday and Friday at 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm.  You are asked to purchase tickets online at www.wildcatstix.com or call the high school at 651-257 -2500 for more information.

As I mentioned here last week, Thanksgiving is fast approaching.  Most people have plans to join family and friends for a wonderful home cooked meal and good times.  But there are many among us who will be alone this Thanksgiving.  There is no reason to spend it at home when there is a wonderful, warm place that is serving one of the best Thanksgiving meals in town for free (or at least a free will offering).  There’s a boatload of volunteers who for years now have been taking time out of their busy Thanksgivings to put this meal on just so everyone has a place to enjoy Thanksgiving.  I have been part of the meal for quite a few years now and it is a well-oiled machine.  
If you or someone you know has no plans on Thanksgiving, please, please call 651-257-6300 to make a reservation. If it’s after hours please leave a message stating your name and if any  will be joining you.  

Speaking of fun, this weekend has some fun events - especially if you like bingo.  Friday night, the Taylors Falls Lions club invites you and your family to the annual Turkey Bingo.  Bingo begins at 6:30 pm at the Taylors Falls Community Center. There will be refreshments and food available for purchase.  They are accepting used eyeglasses so if you have a pair that you have outgrown, please bring them.

Chisago City Americal Legion will host their annual Turkey Bingo on Saturday night.  Bingo will begin at 7 pm and is held at the all-new Uncommon Loon Brewery (formerly known as the Chisago City community Center).  Along with turkey prizes, they will be holding several meat raffles.  I would suggest getting there early, this is a popular event.
