Adelaine (Ade) Violet Akerlund (nee Nelson) age 86, most recently of Chisago City, Minnesota, passed away on October 9, 2018.

Ade was born January 9, 1932 at her home in Dresser, Wisconsin to Herbert and Emma (Ingeborg) Nelson.  She was the youngest of six children.  Ade attended elementary school in Dresser, Wisconsin and graduated high school from Osceola, Wisconsin.  She worked as a nanny when she was 14 years of age and later went to work as a bookkeeper after graduation for Fidelity Acceptance Corporation.

She met Orville Akerlund (a Minnesota man) at a local dance.  They married September 16, 1950 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church and moved to the Akerlund family farm in Center City, Minnesota.  Unto this marriage a son Richard was born, and later two daughters Holly and Julie.

Ade and her family moved to the lake home in Chisago City in 1957.  She was forced to then raise her family alone at the passing of her husband Orville in 1976.  She then pursued her life long dream of working in health care by becoming a nursing assistant, medication aide, and finally a licensed practical nurse.

She was involved in many activities and travels such as foster grandparent, 4-H leader, Swedish Club, Swedish Dance Group, Sons of Norway, many Chisago Lake Lutheran Committees, and was Chisago County Senior Citizen of the year.  Her travels included trips to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Jamaica, and a Mexican cruise, Canada, and many states.

Ade enjoyed family, church, dancing, reading, cooking, crafts, word finds, living by the lake, gardening, friends, and life.

She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Emma Nelson, husband Orville, son Gary, brothers Ing and Thomas, sisters Myrt, Lil, and Rose.

She is survived by son Richard (Suzy) Akerlund; daughters Holly (Norm) Damm, and Julie (Tony) Tschida; grandchildren RJ, Ben, Jess, Dan, Jon, Nicole, Tyler, Sarah, Paige, Zachary, and Emily; and four great-grandsons.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Service 11 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City.  Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment at Chisago Lake Cemetery in Center City, Minnesota.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
