A while back I wrote about the grant application for the Chisago Lakes Foundation.

The CLACF is now accepting grant applications for 2018 and good news, they have extended the deadline.

Grants are awarded to support local projects that have broad community impact.

Applications will be accepted on or before September 15, 2018 and will be awarded by mid-October. So get your application in now!

This weekend has snowmobilers of all ages eagerly awaiting Hay Days.  North Branch (actually quite a bit east of there) is the site of tens of thousands of snowmobile enthusiasts that will converge on Oriole Avenue and Highway 95,  There-- they (or you if you are lucky enough to own a snowmobile) will be treated to miles and miles of a snowmobile flea market which has virtually every part for any snowmobile you could possibly need.  The show also has a high-flying thrill show filled with motorcycles, snowmobiles, four wheelers and anything else with an engine jumping and doing all sorts of tricks.  There are grass drag racing, mud runs and three wheeler races.  The event runs Saturday and Sunday and gates open at 7 am.

I hope next Tuesday you will carve out a little time to come up to Moberg Park in Chisago City.  That is the spot for the 2018 Patriot's Remembrance Day.  It is a short program where we will get a chance to honor to those who perished on that terrible day 9/11 in 2001. Those folks who literally gave their lives trying to save the lives of other innocent people.  I have been to this event many times and it is very moving to say the least.  The remembrance begins at 6 pm, bring the kids, it is a great way to teach them the respect and honor that those who serve,  deserve.

Another thing that my family will be doing this weekend is visiting the local orchards.  Apples are in and ready for picking.  We have a couple of local orchards that we love.  Sunrise River Farm in Wyoming and Pleasant Valley Orchard in rural Shafer are two of the best apple orchards you will find in the upper midwest. There is nothing that compares to a locally grown apple that is fresh off the tree.
