Lots to do this weekend if you like food, music, fun, oh and more food

If you are looking for some fun local things to do this weekend, we have you covered.  The city of Shafer cordially invites you to the annual Shafer Days celebration.  Shafer Days runs Friday through Saturday and has a ton of fun stuff for friends and familes to do.

Friday, the Shafer Fire Department will host the very popular Bingo at the fire hall. The event runs from 6 pm to 9 pm with concessions (including beer) available for purchase. If you are in the mood for a little music, there are three - yes three options Friday night.  Ole’s Crossroads will feature Lipstick & Dynamite, The Shafer Saloon will feature the band Straight Shot and the Creamery has The After Hours Band.

Saturday the fire department invites you back for the annual pancake breakfast beginning at 7 am.

Hunt for the missing clog and take home $100 cash if you are the lucky finder.

There will be street vendors including food trucks along Redwing Avenue all day.

At 9 am, there is a great car and motorcycle show with vehicles littering the streets all there for you to drool over (okay, I am referring to myself).

There will be amusement rides as well as a climbing wall at the trailhead along Redwing Avenue.

At 11 am, there’s chainsaw races at the fire hall.  The famous Shafer bank robery will take place at 11:30 am with a chili feed to follow at the fire hall.

Shafer Days parade will make its way through town at 4 pm so get your spot early.

The other big thing to do this weekend (besides the Vikings vs Packers game) is Almelund’s Apple Festival.  This is the 25th year of the apple festival and if you are an apple lover like we are, you will be in heaven.  The event only runs for five hours (11am-4pm) which is just about perfect. If you are wanting to watch the big game, it gives you time both before and after to attend and pick up some scrumptious goodies.

Anything you can imagine made with apples will be there: desserts, sausages, butter, jams, juices you name it - it’s there.

There is a great museum to tour, along with log farm buildings you can walk through and even watch some old time comedies. There are Model-T car rides to take you for a spin around town.

It is really a step back in time and the foods (in my case snacks) are soooo good.

The reason I love apple fest is the relaxed atmosphere. Come and go as you like, sit and eat as long as you like.  The weather is usually perfect and the apples are even better!
