Monday, September 24 the state patrol released preliminary information about a multi-vehicle crash involving two area women, reported about 6:45 p.m. that day.
The crash happened on I-35 northbound in Anoka County, as traffic came to a stop in the left lane.

Injured were Sandra Mielke, 71, and Renee Miller, 58, both of Shafer.

According to the state patrol three vehicles were stopped in a line in the left northbound lane, when a Pontiac Montana driven by a 20-year-old female,  from Arden Hills crashed into the last in line, causing a chain reaction.

Miller was brought to Regions, Mielke went to North Memorial.

The third driver involved, at the front of the line, was unhurt.  He was in a Silverado truck.  Both Mielke and Miller were driving Ford Escapes.

September 23 Lakes Area Police were asked to check the welfare of a Chisago City man, because his name came up in the state database as the registered owner for a boat found floating empty on the Mississippi.  The man was located; he had traded the boat for a motorcycle and he gave authorities contact information for the current boat owner.

An 80-year-old  driver who executed a dangerous vehicular movement, observed by a Lakes Area police officer on patrol, was arrested for DUI. The arrest was at Hwy. 8 and Sportsmens Drive about 1:45 a.m.

September 19 the Swedish Immigrant Trail segment near Rydeen and 305th was vandalized. Suspect is assumed to be a party embroiled in lot line dispute as “no trespassing” was spray painted on trail, and there was the word “trail,” with an arrow pointing off the paved portion.
