April 6 sheriff’s deputies called in a regional animal rescue group in the course of following up on a complaint about neglected animals, at a parcel on Trulson Road in Sunrise Township. A tip had led authorities to investigate the perceived lack of care of a herd of sheep.
The Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation, based out of Zimmerman MN, assisted authorities with sheep/lambs that were collected. Two deceased lambs were also found. A veterinarian is assessing the animals.
The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
April 4 a house fire was reported at Crescent Road in Center City, about 6:25 p.m. Coals disposed from a wood burner are believed to be involved in starting the fire. Lindstrom and Shafer-Franconia firefighters were also sent to the scene, with Center City Fire Dept. A corner area of the house burned, and interior smoke damages resulted.
Another fire in Center City in late March, that burned a detached garage, is believed traceable to a malfunctioning power tool battery charger.
Also April 4 a middle school student was cited for assault. Lakes Area Police reviewed videotape and spoke with witnesses about an alleged fight reported approximately 9 a.m.
A report to 9-1-1 dispatch of poor driving behavior resulted in a pursuit of a suspect westbound on Hwy. 8 to I-35, where stop sticks put a halt to the fleeing vehicle just south of the Broadway bridge. A 47 year old male was arrested.
April 3 a natural gas leak was reported at 3:15 p.m. at a home on Legacy Court, Chisago City. Xcel Energy responded with Lakes Area Police and addressed an issue with the water heater.
