Alice Adeline Mortenson, age 87, of Chisago City, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Parmly on the Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Algot and Agnes Johnson and five brothers; Iver, Herman, Harry, Roy, and Lloyd.  Alice is survived by her husband John Mortenson; sister, Harriet (Edward) Hulsman; caregivers, Glenn and Linea Mortenson; godchildren, Beverly Nelson, Mary Bolang, Karin Sorenson, Barbara Hellpap, Scott Mortenson, Debra Mathis, Ashley Kennedy, and Todd Mortenson; also many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Alice was born May 16, 1931, to Algot and Agnes (Nelson) Johnson in White Bear Lake.  The family moved to Bruno, and in 1940 moved to a farm in Palmdale. She was confirmed and a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund.  Alice graduated from Taylors Falls High School in 1949.

Alice met John Glenwood Mortenson at a roller skating rink.  They began their courtship and were married March 3, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund.  They made their home in St. Croix Falls, WI, and in 1960 built their home on Green Lake in Chisago City.  They lived there until moving to assisted living at Parmly on the Lake in October 2017.

Alice’s career started as a telephone operator in St. Croix Falls, WI. She was a photographer colorist on black and white photos for Johnson Photography in Forest Lake, and was employed with the City of Chisago City until her retirement in 1991.  She was an International family historian, member of Kicha Saga (a Swedish folk dancing group), Immanuel Lutheran serving group C, past leader of Lutheran League groups at Immanuel, Red Hat Ladies, and mentor and contributor at Karl Oskar Swedish House in Lindstrom.  She spent years promoting Swedish heritage and tourism in the Lindstrom community.  Alice enjoyed traveling in all 50 states and many countries including Sweden eight times, gardening, sewing and needlework.

Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Grandstrand Funeral Home of Lindstrom handled the arrangements.
