Several fires reported in the last week, involving structures and grass/debris incidents. One involved a citation April 16, for an illegal burn barrell that got out of control. The burn barrell was at an addess on Kost Trail, Lent Township. Firefighters, sheriff’s office and DNR were dispatched about 1:30 p.m. Also April 16, a fire was reported at an address on Oasis Road in Sunrise Township about 1:10 p.m. The same day; a car fire in Nessel Township on Falcon Avenue (north end) was called-in about 6 p.m. Car driver was southbound on Falcon, discovered he had no brakes, but managed to bring the car to a rolling stop and he was unhurt.
April 19 there was a fire in a truck bed hauling garbage, near 520th and Hwy. 61. Incident happened about 3:15 p.m. Rush City firefighters extinguished. A yard/grass fire was reported same day on Kost Trail, about 6 p.m. Almelund Fire Dept. was sent.
And, a structure fire in Nessel Twsp., on Shorewood Circle, engulfed a vacant house, reported about 9:10 a.m. Rush City, Braham and Pine City firefighters were sent. Fire Marshal Investigator reported no arson is suspected, and cause could have been compromised wiring.
A Lakes Area officer was requested to assist at a crisis scene in Pine County where a DNR Conservation Officer drowned. Call came about 10:30 p.m. from Pine County.
A counterfeit $20 was taken at Holiday in Lindstrom. Lakes Area Police and Secret Service are investigating.
April 20 there was a grass fire reported on Lofton, north of Chisago City. Lindstrom Fire was dispatched. Incident reported about 8 p.m.
A fire at Quinlan and Furuby Road, in Shafer Township, was reported same day about 5:30 p.m. Cause is under investigation.
April 20 one of the first motorcycle accidents of the season. A driver and pasenger were airlifted when their motorcycle crashed off Stark Road and Blackhawk, in Fish Lake Township. Scene was reported about 9:20 p.m. Charges are pending blood alcohol tests.
April 21 a rock was reportedly thrown through a vehicle window at an address on 5th Street in Rush City.
A complaint about firearms shooting in the area of Tern Avenue and Hwy. 8 was checked out by a sheriff’s deputy, who reported the activity was conducted legally with appropriate firearms. Complaint came in about 3:30 p.m.
