Men
Most years at the Chisago Lakes Triathlon, there is a glutton of familiar names and faces at the finish line. Names like Thompson, Cooley, and Adriaens have become a staple on the top of the podium at the event.

But, this year it was a lot of new faces among the top competitors, who finished in a driving rain that soaked every competitor on the course.
Josh Mork, a first timer in the CL Tri, won the event in a time of 4:09.57, finishing a minute and a half faster than Ben Lindell, who came in second with a time of 4:11:30.

Andrew Zabel came in third in 4:13:39, Jeff Mettler came in fourth and Dan Arlandson came in fifth. None of them had a top five finish to their name at the CL Tri up until 2019.

Mork was fourth out of the water, third on the bike portion and ninth in the run. Lindell did his best to cut into Mork’s lead in the run, but it was too big to overcome. Lindell was 49th out of the water, sixth in biking and the top runner, setting a blistering pace of 6:15/mile over 13.1 miles.
Mork’s time fell just a bit short of last year’s champion, Matt Hutchinson. Hutschinson finished in 4:06:45.

Women
The women’s half of the event was very different than the mens as far as returning competitors. There’s one name, however, that stood out more than it has in the past. Kortney Haag has finished as a runner up in the event, third place multiple times and has always been at or near the top of the event, but had never won it. Until now. Haag bested a competitive womens field, winning with a time of 4:32:52. That time beat another former top finisher, Becky Youngberg, who came into Paradise Park and finishes the race in 4:37:28.

Paige Schulz, Kelly Trom and Caryn Herrick rounded out the top five women finishers.

Haag’s time was four minutes behind the pace set by last year’s champion Hannah Grinaker.
