Bonnadell Severson

Bonnadell “Bonnie” Eilene Severson, age 89 of Lindstrom, died Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at Unity Hospital in Minneapolis.

Bonnie was born April 9, 1930, in Fairview, SD. She was the daughter of Oliver and Mabel (Swanson) Greguson. Bonnie graduated from high school in Canton, SD and received her education bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Donald Severson on August 23, 1953. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before Don passed in 2014. Bonnie and Don volunteered at Hazelden for many years. During retirement, she and Don wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for 17 years. Together they enjoyed ballroom dancing, dance instruction, big band music and travel.

She was a 6th grade teacher in the Chisago Lakes School District for 30 years. She believed homework should be completed in class. Bonnie was a member of Chisago Lake Lutheran Church where she participated in the choir. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, cooking, sewing, swimming, making lefse, teaching Minnesota history and world geography. She was a soloist, cut a record and toured the United States with a Trio. She could speak Norwegian.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mable; husband Don; and sister Merlene.

She is survived by her children; John (Debbie), Mary, and Joel (Theresa); three grandchildren, Emily, Hayley and Anders; sister Ardis; also nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery near Fairview, SD at a later date. Memorials preferred to the Family Program at Hazelden. Online condolences may be left at www.grandstrandfh.com.
