John Mortenson
John was born May 29, 1925, to Nels and Emma (Persson) Mortenson in Shafer, Minnesota. Later the family moved to Dresser, Wisconsin and St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. He was confirmed and a longtime member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund, Minnesota.
John attended high school in Chisago City, Minnesota. He met the love of his life, Alice Adeline Johnson at a roller skating rink. They married March 3, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. They made their home in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin until 1960 and then built their home on Green Lake in Chisago City. They lived there until moving to assisted living at Parmly on the Lake in October 2017.
John’s early career was managing a dairy farm, in 1959 his career started at Acme Tag as an engineer, retiring in 1985.
John’s hobbies were traveling to his parents homeland, Sweden eight times and many other countries plus all 50 states numerous times. John was a mechanic, a gardener who shared veggies with the wonderful neighbors, a fisherman, a Swedish folk dancer, a mentor for the Karl Oskar Swedish house in Lindstrom, a member of Swedish coffee group and a Ham radio (NOLLR) operator.
John is survived by his sister Marilyn (Roger) Landreville; caregivers, Glenn and Linea Mortenson; godchildren, Beverly Nelson, Mary Bolang, Karin Sorenson, Barbara Hellpap, Scott Mortenson, Debra Mathis, Ashley Kennedy, and Todd Mortenson; sister and brothers in law: Eddie Harriet Hulsman, Rosemary Johnson, Anita Mortenson, and Verone Mortenson; also many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Alice; his parents, Nels and Emma (Persson) Mortenson; brothers Eddie, Carl, Raymond, Percy, Wally and Corley; sisters Helen Hoverman, Ruby Anderson, and Betty Landeen.
Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund, Minnesota. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at the Almelund Cemetery for both John and Alice together.
