Snow, snow oh no... Chisago Lakes Home show is coming
It's good for our lakes, it's good for our lakes, it's bad for my back.
Thanks to the Wild River Snowmobile Club for putting on a great snowmobile radar run on Saturday. There were hundreds who turned out to watch and ride their snowmobiles down North Center Lake in Center City. I stopped by and took some photos for the paper and while I was there a snowmobile went 168 miles per hour. Get this, it wasn't even the fastest one of the day. Jason Houle drove his sled 173 miles per hour. when I saw the one go 168, I was really surprised how little it slid to get going, rather it started slow for a tiny bit and then took off like a rocket. I have always wanted to try to drive a fast sled down a run like that, but looking at the drivers of those sleds and their body shapes, it's safe to say the sled I would drive probably wouldn't break 50 miles per hour.
We are only a couple of weeks away from the 2019 Home, Garden and Business Expo. The show is being held for the last time in the Chisago Lakes High School's gym and lunch room area. Next year the show will be held in the brand new field house that many of you have been watching go up over the last year or so. I hope you get a chance to come out to the home show and visit with some of the amazing vendors who all offer something different and unique for your home or business. There are close to 100 vendors and we expect that number to explode next year with the new venue. Come on out and say hi, I will see you at the show.
If you are a vendor and would like to be featured in the show please call Community Ed at 651-213-2603.
Speaking of the school, as you have probably heard, the Chisago Lakes School District is facing a budget challenge right now. It means expenses are outpacing revenue by a decent amount of money. Rest assured folks, they do have a plan. Transportation costs have skyrocketed over 13 percent. They are looking into every avenue possible while keeping us, the taxpayers, in mind. The school has always been a fiscally sound decision maker and I am confident they will continue to do the same. We have some great folks working in the school system.
