She was born on August 25, 1928 to Dewey and Ruth Sellman of Almelund, MN. She grew up on the family farm with her three brothers, Lowell, Merle, and Ron.
Delores attended the Reed School near their farm in Almelund, and then Taylors Falls School, graduating in 1946. On June 5, 1948 she married Leland Rivard of Taylors Falls. Their union of 70 years blessed them with five children, 16 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
Leland and Delores ran Rivard’s Grocery Store in Taylors Falls for 28 years before building Cherry Hill Meat Processing, which they operated together. Delores also worked as a cook at Taylors Falls School until her retirement in 1994. Delores was born with a green thumb and was known for being able to make almost anything grow. She loved spending time in her gardens and grew beautiful flower and vegetable gardens every summer.
Leland and Delores loved traveling and spent many happy years wintering in Texas during their retirement. But most of all, Delores loved her family, and treasured the precious time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Delores was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church and participated in many additional community activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Leland, son-in-law Dick Garbe, her parents Dewey and Ruth Sellman, and brothers Lowell and Merle.
Delores was the hub of the family and will be sorely missed by her family as well as many friends and relatives. She is survived by children Robin Garbe, Ross (Michele), Lucinda (John) Hering, Tim (Lisa), and Joel (Roxanne), 16 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
