This weekend is a sad and exciting event all wrapped into one. The 2019 Chisago Lakes Home, Garden and Business show is this Saturday and Sunday.

What could be sad about a home show? Well, I was half toungue-in-cheek, but this will be the last time the event is help in the gym and the lunch room of the high school.  I will agree, it hasn’t been the optimal place to hold the show, broken into three parts, but over the years we have made due and it has survived.

Next year the show will be at the bright and shiny new community center with all the bells and whistles and the best part? All vendors will be in the same room under one roof.  I have been lucky to get a tour of the new facility and let me just say “wow”. It is beautiful and the community is going to love it.  Come on out to the show this weekend and you can get a free guided tour of the new facilities including the new community center and the new greenhouse.   You will be impressed with the quality and magnitude of the building which will serve our community for decades.

Back to the show - this year’s show is still packed with great local vendors who all have something unique to offer you.   There is everything from home construction, to beautiful landscaping all the way to tax preperations.  Everything you can imagine for your home or business.  The show has some great entertainment and informative sessions that will appeal to all of us.  Saturday begins with an energy effeciency basics seminar. The River City Cloggers follow with their popular dances.  Mary Poppins and Spider Man will make their grand appearance at the show for a meet and greet, so bring your cameras.  They will be at the show from 1 to 2 pm.  Make sure the kids stick around for a fun build-a-birdhouse seminar. They can check in at the Gregory Construction booth prior to the workshop.

Sunday join Cory Lindgren of Lindgren Tax for an informative sminar on tips and tricks on taxes at 11:30 am.  The cloggers come back at noon for a Sundfay show as well as Mary Poppins and Spider-Man. There will be a second birdhouse building workshop on Sunday at 2 pm.  Plenty to do and out of the snow. See you at the show.

On March 5, the public is invited to Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in center City for a Fat Tuesday pancake feast. The meal is a free-will donation and is filled with food, fellowship, music and games. A great break from this long, cold winter. Proceeds will go to ministries in Guatemala and Tanzania.  Good food for a great cause.

I know it’s still winter and there is nine feet of ice on the lakes, but it’s never too early to think about fishing.  There is a school ages league that will be in it’s second year that is looking for boys and girls grades 7 to 12 who love bass fishing.  The league fishes once a week during the sprin and summer and is an awesome time.
