A little blast of winter is perfect for this year's Winter Blast

Ok, here we go.  Mother Nature has tried her hardest to make sure the annual Winter Blast is a flop, but I am happy to say she has failed. While we sadly did lose two events of the celebration (the ice fishing contest and the ice carousel), others have remained and this weekend will still have plenty of fun events for you and your family to take in.

The celebration begins today officially with a book sale at the Chisago Lakes Library and the streets of our downtowns will be filled with women and girls enjoying the annual Downtown Diva Night.  A night of shopping along with Bingo cards that you can fill by visiting local businesses.  The shopping fun runs from 2 to 7 pm and at 7:30 pm you are invited to come play Bingo with your cards you have amassed from the businesses Bingo is at Winehaven Winery in Chisago City.

On Friday, the book sale continues and the very popular Puzzles, Pie and Potato Soup event, held at First United Methodist Church takes place from 6 to 8 pm.  I believe you can still register your puzzle team by calling 651-257-4306.

Saturday begins with a 5K run/walk in Center City at the Fire Hall.  You are asked to show up before 8:30 am to register and if possible, to register at midwestevents.com.  At 9:15 the kids run/walk will take place.  The races run through town and out into the country. It is a really neat event that wraps up back at the fire hall.

In Lindstrom, St. Croix Regional Medical Clinic invites you to a free (with WinterBlast button) cardio craze class that begins at 8 am.

In Chisago City if the snow arrives like they say it will, there will be cross country skiing at Ojiketa Regional Park. If the event takes place, you are expected to bring your own skis.  Check with the Chamber of Commerce at 651-257-1177 to see if the event is cancelled or not.

Ojiketa will also host food trucks from 10 am to 4 pm.

In the Tamarack Cabin, kids are invited for a Cozy Cabin Time event.

Kids are encouraged to stick around for a canvas painting class that runs from 11 am until 3 pm. There is a small fee for the materials . The event will be in Strom Hall.

Ojiketa will have kids games from 11am to 4 pm and there is once again a medallion hunt for a hidden medallion on the Ojiketa camp property.

The popular sled dogs will be there for rides again this year.

At 12:30 in Strom Hall kids are invited for a marshmallow engineering class where they can construct artwork using marshmallows and then ultimately eat their finished piece.

Strom Hall will then host a kids’ story time at 3 pm followed by an awards ceremony for coloring contest and medallion finder.

Saturday night has two really neat events for you to enjoy.  If you enjoy being outside, snowshoeing by candlelight at Ojiketa starts at 6 pm.

In Lindstrom the super-popular polka dance will take place at the Lindstrom City Hall. The Chiemelewski Funtime Band will headline again this year and Deutschland Meats will on hand with food and drinks for purchase. The dance runs from 6 to 9 pm.

A lot to take in I know, I will hopefully see you there!
