Lloyd H. Johnson, age 93 of Shafer, passed away  Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his farm in Shafer Township.

Lloyd Harlin Johnson was born to Algot and Agnes (Nelson) Johnson on December 12, 1925 in St. Paul. He was the second of seven children.  In 1934, the family moved to Bruno where they lived until 1940. The family then moved to the farm located behind the Palmdale Store. Lloyd was confirmed and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Almelund.  Lloyd worked at the Palmdale Garage, then at a local farm milking cows and that is where he met his beloved future wife Carole Reese.

On July 11, 1944 Lloyd entered the Army, completed basic training in Texas and was then deployed to France and fought in the battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and was transported to England for recovery. He was awarded a Purple Heart and various other medals.  Upon returning home from the Army in May of 1946; he married Carole Reese June 29, 1946. They moved to a farm that is now the Almelund Threshing Grounds site. In 1948, they moved a mile south to a farm that he purchased and raised their family; Sharon, Doug, Mike, Brad, Gerald, and Julie. He actively farmed until 2005.

He belonged to many different organizations throughout his life. He served on the Almelund Creamery Board for 18 years, the Shafer Township Board for six years. He was a charter member of the Almelund Threshing Company. He was involved in the Local VFW, DAV, and Almelund Lions. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with his retirement occupation of restoring antique tractors and farm equipment and maintaining the threshing grounds throughout the summer months.

He is survived by his children; Sharon (Robert) Swanson of Somerset, WI, Douglas (Kari) Johnson of Shafer, Michael (Deb) Johnson of Bemidji, Bradley (Janet) Johnson of Shafer and Julie (Lyle) Johnson of Stacy; his 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, two sisters Alice and Harriet; and many other family members and friends.  

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carole, infant son Gerald and three great grandsons as well as his parents, Algot and Agnes and brothers; Iver, Herman, Harry, and Roy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund with Rev. Marla Amborn officiating.  Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at church on Saturday.  Interment will follow the service at the Almelund Cemetery with military honors provided by the Chisago Lakes VFW Post.
