The girls alpine ski team has had troubles with Centennial all year. The Cougars  always seemed to be just a hair faster than the Wildcats, and it led to many second place finishes for Chisago Lakes.

But, in the Northwest Suburban Conference race that mattered the most, Chisago Lakes busted down the door and overtook the lead, winning the conference championship handily behind some very strong individual performances.

Sophie Janzig headlined the CL lineup, finishing in second place overall with a time of 56.65 seconds. She was the top finisher on the blue course and the fourth place finisher on the red course.

Megan Cartier backed that up with a great performance, coming in seventh place overall. She was fourth on the blue run and 12th on the red run, avoiding any slip ups that would’ve opened the door for competitors to slip through.

The strong skiing continued down the lineup, with Megan Adams coming in 18th place, Kaylee Peterson in 20th place, Elsa Dahl in 29th, Annah Mellum in 44th and Lauren Lundberg in 38th.

The conference championship meet uses more skiers than the regular conference match ups, and that played heavily in favor of the deep Chisago Lakes’ lineup.

As a team, the Wildcats scored 416 points total, which cleared second place Blaine by 30 points, as they scored 386. Centennial, who had been CL’s chief competition all year, struggled in the meet, scoring 372 points to finish in third place.

Janzig, Adams and Cartier all earned All-Conference honors for their overall season performance. Cartier was fourth overall in the NWSC.

Boys
The boys were a bit more dominant this year with their results, winning all of the conference meets, so it was no surprise that they won the conference championship meet also.

They had three top five finishes, headlined by Augie Brown’s win and Jamie Mower’s third place. The two were separated by just two-tenths of a second. Brown’s time was 52.26 seconds and a Mower’s was 52.52 seconds.

Zach Hennen had his best meet as a Wildcat, finishing in fifth place overall. He came in fifth on the red course and fourth on the blue course to finish with a combined time of 54.59 seconds.

The varsity lineup kept producing too. Jack LeTourneau finished in 12th place, Gavin Bodin came in 16th, Will Hennen in 17th and Mike Frischmon finished up the scoring with a 25th place.

As a team, the boys tallied 628 points, which held off hard-charging Blaine, who finished in second place with 601 points. It was really a two-horse race, though, as third place Centennial was 108 points behind CL.

Brown and Mower finished one-two in the overall conference championship standings. Brown was the top finisher and Mower came in second.

Zach Hennen, Mower, Brown, Frischmon, LeTorneau and Bodin all earned overall All-Conference honors for their season totals.
