Law Enforcement

Law enforcement across the county responded to dozens of fireworks complaint calls.  The incidents were mostly handled by halting illegal displays amicably and/or giving out warnings. A couple incidents resulted in tickets.  Some of the fireworks were shot off from pontoon boats in the middle of a lake, and it was impossible to identify those responsible.

Sunday, July 7 in a multi-day traffic law enforcement saturation, dozens of stops for speeding, etc and tickets were written by area departments.  A woman, 34, ticketed for going approximately 20 miles over the speed limit on Green Lake Trail, was asked if she was aware of her speed and responded to the Lakes Area Police Officer, “don’t you see all the stuff we have to unpack?” She was pulled over about 7:45 p.m.

Deputies cited two individuals for spray-painting graffiti on the bridge over the creek in Stacy, nearby Lions Park. Their activity had been videotaped at approximately 6 p.m., and the evidence was shown to law enforcement.

A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle in Rush City.  A card was used for purchases at Wal-Mart in Shakopee not long after.

July 6 a woman and man, who were described as appearing exhausted, were noticed about 6 p.m. along the side of County Road 14 at 347th, by a patrol deputy.

Checking on their welfare he learned they were kayakers who had gotten lost and were trying to walk back to their vehicle in Kost Dam County Park.  The deputy gave them a ride.

Two males were in a brawl at Flickabirds on Rush Lake, the report came in about 1:13 a.m.  The responding deputy said neither wanted to press charges, and nobody was seriously hurt.

The Center City Fire Dept. First Responders went to a medical call at the North Center Lake boat access about 8:30 a.m.  The victim was taken to Fairview in Wyoming by ambulance. The condition is not known.

Truly a life-saving response
A male was reported ‘not responsive’ on the Bulrush Golf Club course, about 4 p.m.  He was transported by ground ambulance to the North Branch air ambulance landing zone by Lakes Region EMS.

LifeLink airlifted him to the U of M Hospital.  Deputies performed CPR on the course. The sheriff’s office said the hospital reports the victim is now eating and walking.  He says he and his family are very thankful for the deputies’ efforts as well as the ambulance service that responded.  Deputies Rick Lonetti and Andrew Haider responded to the golf course.

July 4 a 2006 Sprinter van collided into a skidsteer  after crashing through a barrier on Interstate 35,  near the Pine County-Chisago County line.  The incident was reported about 5:18 a.m.  State patrol reports the driver, a 50-year-old man from Anoka, fell asleep while southbound.

Rush City firefighters extricated the reportedly conscious and talking victim from the van windshield, which he partially broke through.  LifeLink took him to Regions Hospital.

A two car crash at Pleasant Valley Road and Highway 8 about 7:20 a.m. on the Fourth of July did not hurt anyone.  Medical transport was declined by both the driver of a Toyota Corolla and a Subaru driver.

It is reported the Subaru went through the stop sign while heading northbound on Pleasant Valley,  and crashed into the Toyota westbound on #8, leaving the Corolla in the ditch.  One driver had a suspended license.

July 2 there was a containable fire with heavy smoke involved, at the egg carton manufacturer in the Chisago City industrial park.  The call came in about 9:30 p.m. Employees were evacuated and nobody was hurt.

Lakes Area Police are looking into a dog bite reported on Andrews Avenue in Lindstrom.

July 1, Deputies are looking into an incident where a home on Balsam Avenue in Nessel Township was damaged by shots from a firearm, reported about 8 p.m..  Photos of damage were taken, nobody was hurt.
