Joe was born on March 8, 1922 in St. Paul to parents, William and Edith (Harmon) Johnson. He was raised in the Braham and North Branch area. He served during WW II in the Army Air Corps. from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific as a radio operator and waist gunner on a B24 Bomber. He married his first wife Lila Wicks in 1949 and they raised seven children. Joe worked as a Supervisor at Honeywell most of his life retiring in 1984. After the death of his wife Lila Joe married Kathleen Tully on his 80th birthday in 2002. Joe enjoyed joking around, dancing and riding his bike. He truly loved being around his family and friends and will be
dearly missed.
Joe is survived by his wife Kathleen Tully; children Janet (John) Evers of Apache Junction, AZ, Barb (David) Anderson of North Branch, Martin Johnson of Stanchfield, JoAnn Severin of Apache Junction, AZ, Paul (Tammy) Johnson of Grantsburg, WI, Aletha (Wade) Salminen of North Branch, stepson, David (Tammy) Tully of Floyds Knobs, IN; his 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; devoted friend Bill Schaden and brother in law, Leo Pierre of St. Paul.
Joe is preceded in death by his first wife Lila in December of 1997; son William; parents William and Edith; brothers, Lawrence and Donald; sisters Lucille and Loretta; grandson Sean Swanson; stepson Norman Tully and one great step grandson Bryan Tucker and Cheryl Johnstone (Martin).
Funeral services at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Sunrise Bible Church in Sunrise with Pastor David Stertz officiating. Music provided by Charlotte Wilcox. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment followed the service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in North Branch, with military honors by the North Branch VFW and American Legion Honor Squads.
