Monday night I officially became an old person.  Our daughter and baby graduated high school making us empty nesters eventually (fingers crossed).  “Enjoy this now Matt because soon it will be gone” my dad would utter over and over again when our kids were little tykes.  Of course I would roll my eyes because when possibly could a parent know more than a young adult?  Never of course.   But dang it if the old boy wasn’t right.  In fact he was spot on about everything.  Why does it take us so long to realize things when we could be enjoying the moment while it’s actually happening?  Man, I would like a re-do.  Now that I have gone through making all of my mistakes, I would like a chance at actually being a good parent.  I know it’s not going to happen realistically but I will head down the same path as my dad and his dad and try to pound it into my kid’s heads to enjoy the here and now.  I hope I didn’t raise a couple of blockheads like myself.

But seriously, congratulations to all of the graduates of both North Branch and Chisago Lakes.  Every year it seems the world is becoming a more difficult place for youth to grow up in, and yet these kids never cease to amaze me with their levelheadedness and decent morals. I think the future is bright with this group. Now bring on the taco-in-a-bags!

Tonight (I realize many of you are reading this on Thursday, but this goes on all summer) Lindstrom begins their annual Harmony in the Park music celebration.  The super-popular weekly event takes place at Lions Park next to city hall.  The music selection for this summer is the best it’s ever been beginning with the White Sidewalls followed by a Garth Brooks tribute band next week.  We will have the schedule in the Press every week and it’s on page 11 this week if you want to clip it out.

Harmony in the Park is not a cheap event to put on.  There are many costs including musical talent that adds up so we the public can enjoy the free event.  Thank you to all of the great sponsors who have stepped up this year to make Harmony in the Park a free event for the entire community to enjoy!
