Area law enforcement participated in the torch run for Special Olympics last week. The run which began Monday June 17 in northern Minnesota, and ended at St. Thomas Friday, June 21 in the Twin Cities, came down Highway 61 and the North Branch Fire Hall served as a pit stop. Law enforcement agencies started to support special olympians with the first fundraiser symbolic torch run held in 1981 and in wintertime law enforcement also organizes polar plunge events, where individuals and teams make donations and leap into frigid lakes all over the state for Special Olympics.
