Tuesday this week, May 21 about 2:33 a.m. Lakes Area Police got a call of an armed male threatening suicide at an address in Chisago City.  The area around the home was secured by County SWAT (consisting of officers with Wyoming, North Branch, sheriff’s personnel and local emergency management officials.)    Crisis Negotiators,  arrived at the scene on Matthew Drive-- and law enforcement officials spoke with the 42-year-old man, who was taken into custody around 8:30 a.m. without injury.

Criminal charges stemming from the handgun discharge and other alleged offenses are under review by the county attorney.
Washington County SWAT provided additional manpower assistance along with a remote operated device.


May 19 there was a sheriff’s K9 unit deployed for arresting an uncooperative suspect in North Branch.

The man had been the subject of a traffic stop initiated about 7 p.m., for driving a vehicle without plates. He was pursued into the County Market parking lot where he was boxed in by law enforcement squads and refused to exit the vehicle. He did ultimately flee and a sheriff K9 unit performed a bite-hold, until authorities could transport the suspect to jail.

May 18 sheriff patrol went to an outbuilding in Amador Township a little after midnight, where a vehicle reported as stolen was being stored.  The vehicle was recovered, towed back to its Forest Lake owner and the investigation continues.

Wyoming Police were alerted to an explosive device in the roadway near Birchwood Trailer Park, about 7:30 p.m.  The improvised explosive was collected and St. Paul Bomb Squad helped with dismantling the item without incident.  East Viking Boulevard was closed east and west near the Polaris Research and Development facility until approximately 9 p.m. Police were able to open the security gates and let homeowners through the Polaris access to drive on East Viking to the east.

May 17 an assault reported by Fairview Hospital, with five parties involved and two with injuries.  The incident was called in about 9:30 p.m.  The county attorney is reviewing for charges.

Comfort Lake fire engulfing a boat.  Wyoming Fire responded.  Sheriff’s Water Patrol assisted.  Reported about 6:30 p.m. near the lake access landing.  The fire cause is under review. The boat driver and passenger were treated on site for burns. A fire on Hemingway in Lent Township had spread from a home recreational fire. Reported about 4 p.m. Stacy Lent Fire Dept and DNR handled the incident.

May 16 burnt food atop a stove triggered a fire alarm at East Street apartments building in Chisago City. Firefighters from Chisago City responded. Incident was at 6:47 p.m.

A single motorcycle crash at Stinson and Shoquist, Chisago City, about 12:30 p.m.  is under investigation for a suspected DUI.

May 15 an assault reported at Chisago Lakes High School about noon. Student was placed in custody.  No details of any injury.
