Richard “R.E.” Peterson, age 83, of Chisago City, MN passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on Saturday, May 25, 2019.

Richard was born in Chisago City to Erwin and Florence Peterson on March 28, 1936. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Chisago High School in 1954.

He married Carol Glenna on September 14, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church. He initially worked as a milkman for Sanitary Farm Dairy for 14 years. After that he started  R. E. Peterson, Inc., an excavation company in the Chisago Lakes Area. His son Brett worked alongside him from early on and now heads the company.
Richard had excellent grades in school, but working on the family farm made his attendance record less than stellar. A school official warned Richard that if he didn’t attend more regularly, he would wind up digging ditches. And he did just that, building a very successful excavation business. He also built the first and second homes that he and his family lived in for over 40 years.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, sister Eileen (Peterson) Kalway, brothers Maurice and Rodney Peterson, and grandson Alex Peterson.

Richard is survived by his wife Carol (Glenna) Peterson children Tracy (Todd) Gulliver, Brett Peterson, and Kelly (Rick) Duncan; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Anderson, Laura (Kane) Ferry, Andrew Peterson, Taylor (Jimmy) Lorr, Kyle, Chris, and Carter Duncan; great grandchildren Blake Steen, Eloise and Madeline Ferry and Lindsey (Jonathon) Wilkerson; great great grandson, Waylon Wilkerson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran Church or charity of choice.

Funeral Services were held 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and continued one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment in Chisago Memorial Park. Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home. Condolences may
