Chisago Lakes 6, North Branch 1
Chisago Lakes finished their undefeated Mississippi 8 Conference slate with a 6-1 win over North Branch last week.

The win wrapped up the conference title for the Wildcats in what his been a wildly successful season thus far.

The ‘Cats swept their way through the singles portion of the match, with Greta Gillach, Malia McKinnon, Lauryn Lundberg and Alyssa Vanornum all getting wins for CL. In doubles, Jill Erickson and Chloe Zupko won at second doubles and Emily Erickson and Laine DeVries won at third doubles.

“It’s a great accomplishment for these girls to win the conference title,” Head Coach Jon Erickson said. “It’s a testament to how much improvement they’ve made as not just tennis players, but as great kids.”

The ‘Cats continued their roll later in the week by taking out Andover and Hibbing. Erickson said they were nice warm ups for the section playoffs.

Chisago Lakes 7, Duluth Denfeld 0
The ‘Cats began sections with a quick win over the Hunters from Duluth Denfeld on Tuesday, October 1.

All of the girls won in straight sets, but the real fun of the match was that they put the Wildcat Community Center to work.

The new facility features indoor tennis courts and was put to use when rain washed away any outdoor potential for the game.

Gillach, McKinnon, Lundberg and Vanornum all won handily, with Lundberg’s 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles the closest.

In doubles action, Claire and Grace DeVries had the closest match, winning 6-4, 6-2. Zupko and Jill Erickson won 6-0, 6-1 and Emily Erickson and Laine DeVries won 6-2, 6-0.

Chisago Lakes moves on to the next round of sections, where they will play the winner of the Forest Lake-Cambridge-Isanti match that took place on Wednesday.

“These are some exciting times for the girls and this team,” Coach Erickson said.

Chisago Lakes ended the regular season with a 14-4 record overall and a 7-0 mark in the M8C.
