Local runners get down and especially dirty at Swain Invite
Record rainfalls, cold temperatures and lots of mud made for an interested Swain Invitational at Enger Park in Duluth on Saturday, October 5.
The course was absolutely soaked and trounced over by the time the varsity runners took to the course, and it provided mudholes, puddles and conditions that most of the racers have never had to deal with before.
Despite the harsh conditions, the Chisago Lakes girls cross country team finished fairly well, including a 24th place finish from Maya Aadland. They also got a top 50 finish from Leah Dreckman in 48th, Christina Burnnette coming in 54, Caroline Aili in 69th and Elsa Leopold in 81st place.
The individual results led to a 10th place finish out of 21 teams for the Wildcats with 272 points. Forest Lake won the meet with 33 points and Bloomington Jefferson was second with 110 points.
For the Chisago Lakes boys team, they came in 17th place out of 22 teams, with Henry Johnson leading the way with a 53rd place finish. Hayden Trupe and Luke Velaski both had top 100 finishes for CL, and Grant Koehler and Ben Paulsen rounded out the varsity score in 105th and 115th place, respectively.
North Branch
Both Viking squads finished in last place in the meet, as they still struggle a bit after an in-season coaching switch.
Cora Hudella led the Lady Vikes with a 43rd place finish. Norah Judson, Elizabeth Woods, Melina Demars and Evelyn Demars also competed in the varsity scores for NB.
On the boys side, Carson Klein was the top finisher in 77th place with a time of 20:58.6. Zachary Johnson had a 94th place finish, and Lucas Edson, Alex Dick and Josiah Zderad finished out the varsity scoring for North Branch.
