Halloween fun and Age Well event, let's move Halloween to Saturday
The haunting begins Friday and runs October 18,19, 25 and 26 from 7 pm to 9:30 pm.
Please dress appropriately because you will be mainly outside.
The cost of the haunting is $5 per person but only $3 if you bring a non-perishable food item for the local food shelf. It is not recommended for young children. Ojiketa is located at 27500 Kirby Avenue in Chisago City. South on Old Towne Road - turn across from Zion Lutheran Church.
Next weekend will be the kids’ Falloween festival where young children get the chance to run all over Ojiketa Park in a very unscary Halloween setting. There will be tons of games, arts and crafts, a magic show, pumpkins and a haunted house or two. Falloween will be October 26 and runs from 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
Speaking of Halloween - by now I am sure you have heard about the push to move Halloween to the last Saturday in October. I for one (keep in mind I no longer have children who trick-or-treat) think this is a great idea. It was always so hard for our kids (and even myself when I was a kid) to get all dressed up and spend a rather long night out gathering as many treats as you possibly could, only to have to get up early and head to school. Let’s be honest here, we were all convinced our mom or dad or both were at home eating all of our good candies such as the peanut butter cups.
Why not move Halloween? It’s not tied to a historical date. Just move it. You will make kids and parents so much happier. Oh, and why you are at it, let’s dump daylight savings as well. It serves no purpose whatsoever. Oooh we get an extra hour of daylight in the fall - except days shorten so fast we get to enjoy it for about six days.
All are invited to the Age Well Expo at Chisago Lakes High School for free health screenings, lively entertainment, over 60 booths, and dozens of door prizes.
Chisago Age Well Coalition and Chisago Lakes Community Education host the free event October 18 which will be of special interest to older adults and their caregivers.
Doors (Performing Arts Center entrance) open at 10 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. You will receive a convenient form to record the results of your health screenings.
Here’s hoping our own food writer Alice feels better soon. She recently had shoulder surgery and is on the mend.
