This Saturday, the folks at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom are holding the annual Winter Wonderland Shop Day.  What on earth is that you ask?  It is an awesome place where children are allowed to shop for their parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles in a safe, controlled, beautifully decorated environment.

Children will only be charged one dollar per present.  I have been there before and I can tell you kids feel so grown up as they pay for their own gifts (yes, most parents give their kids money before going in).  There is a waiting area for parents who can enjoy cookies and coffee.

The church is located at  30828 Irene Ave, Lindstrom, off Hwy. 8 near the Middle School.  The event runs from 10 am to 1 pm. Any questions please call 651-257-4306.

Can you believe Wild Mountain has opened its doors and people are now skiing? I was just fishing on South Center in my boat six days ago. This was the shortest fall I can ever remember.

Veterans Day is just around the corner and there are a couple of great events locally that honor those among us who have bravely served in the Armed Forces.

Taylors Falls Elementary School has long been a supporter of Veterans and they would like to invite all Veterans to Veterans Coffee and Lunch.  At 10 am at TF Elementary, Veterans are invited for coffee and cookies while meeting with students in a relaxed environment.  Kids absolutely love meeting Veterans.

Following the meet and greet at the school, Veterans and spouses are invited to the Taylors Falls Fire Department at 11am for a great meal served by the local firemen.

At 3:30 p.m.,  in Chisago City, Zion Lutheran Church, wants Veterans to know they are invited;  with their families to a wonderful Veterans Day Dinner put on by American Legion Posts 83 and 272 and VFW Post 1678. This is a chance for the community to say thank you with a great home-cooked meal.  No speeches, just a nice time with family and fellow soldiers.  I would urge all Veterans to attend, the meal is great and everyone has a great time.  The church is located at 28005 Old Towne Road in Chisago City.

Thanks to Chisago City for yet another year of successfully scaring and entertaining us right near home.  Ojiketa Haunt was better than ever and judging by the number of kids and parents at the Falloween celebration this one  was a massive hit as well. Nice job Doris and the gang!

I know this is early to be talking about Thanksgiving Day, but I just wanted to put this out there so people can put it on their calendars.

Chisago Lakes and North Branch will both offer a Thanksgiving Day meal that is open to all who will be in need of a meal on turkey day. North Branch Lions will accept reservations by phone, for a delivery only meal.  Meal delivery starts about noon.
They ask that you please make a reservation to assure there is enough food for everyone.  In North Branch please call the chamber at 674 4077 or PostHaste 651-237-1115.  In Chisago Lakes reserve a holiday meal at 651-257-6300.  Serving in Chisago is at the Center City church as well.
