Canoe capsizes, results in fatality Sept. 17
A 57-year-old St. Paul man died on the St Croix River, September 17.  

Chisago County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a person not responding to CPR about 2:12 p.m.  The victim’s canoe had capsized near the Sunrise ferry landing. He called for help and when several other canoeists came to his aid he then became unresponsive.  The canoe party was met by the sheriff water patrol and they went to the larger landing at Wild River State Park to meet up with emergency responders.  

Details are being developed, the medical examiner is looking into a cause of death. The sheriff’s office doesn’t see there will be any evidence of foul play being involved.

September 19 a John Deere tractor 4040 model was reported missing from a Knife River Contracting work site  at Forest Blvd. and 460th Street.

Copper theft reported at a site in Amador Township. Labor to repair damages will be $3,000 as well.

September 20 a female requested two cartons of cigarettes at the 61 Stop in Harris and as an employee unlocked case, she was observed stealing lighters at the counter.  She then accepted the two cartons handed to her and left the store without paying. Investigators have good surveillance tape and are investigating.  Incident happened about 5:40 p.m.

September 21 a vehicle window was smashed at an address in rural Center City on 310th and a shotgun and other items were stolen.

Stacy-Lent firefighters put out a car on fire on Lent Trail about 8:30 p.m. No injuries reported.

September 22 thefts from vehicles in the Stacy trailer park reported. Losses include amps, speakers, cigarettes and some scratch-off lottery tickets. Thefts were noticed in the morning.

A rolled vehicle was reported at First Avenue and Maple Street in Lindstrom, about 7:30 p.m.  Bystanders told the deputy that was the first to respond that the driver had taken off on foot, north on Maple, east on Third.  The suspect was located hiding inside a group of pine trees.  Lakes Area officers finished the booking of the subject. Cause of the crash is being looked into.
