Lakes Area Police this past week dealt with a couple of complaints about businesses that were not believed to be “essential” but were open and operating despite the Governor’s statewide executive order.

It can be confusing because the government is encouraging people to get outdoors and fishing is something that is specifically promoted-- but the bait shops can not be open.  Also, tobacco may be a necessity for a large percentage of the population, but smoke shops aren’t considered “essential” either.  Officers gave out warnings and the next day if a business remained open, the order was enforced.

April 5 a propane grill was reported stolen from an address on Lakeview Road, Chisago City.  Drag marks were visible in the yard.

Shafer was hit by thefts from vehicles and a mailbox was reportedly exploded. From Riley Lane a handgun and bow and bow sight were missing from a truck and the mailbox damage was on Ridgewood Avenue.
April 4 report of infant choking at an address on Calendar Isle Center City. Law enforcement arrived about 3:40 p.m. and the child
was conscious.

A complaint came in about 9:45 p.m. of people bow fishing on South Center Lake too close to a dwelling was handled by deputies. The bow fishers were reminded to stay more than 150 feet from an occupied structure.

April 3 a vehicle fire reported at Rod’s about 2:45 p.m. An Almelund firefighter used his personal pickup to push the vehicle away from the gas pumps. Almelund Fire Dept. then handled the situation. No injuries resulted.

April 2 vandalism at PumpHouse Park reported. Signage and the portable restroom were damages.

March 30 a suicidal male was transported from a Lindstrom address, for assessment about 7:40 p.m.

Taylors Falls resident reported theft of a Polaris ATV and a 14 foot Diamond C trailer from a River Street address. The Polaris is tannish-brown and has no top.
