This Easter will be like no other - ever, looking for local heroes

Well we are coming close to finishing our first two weeks of Stay-At-Home ordered by the state.  I would love to say it’s gone smoothly but that would be a lie.

For the most part it has been easy and actually pleasurable to be around the family so much (wait did I just say that?).  But there were a few times where it felt like we were all just looking for an oasis or a get-away spot to just be alone.  We live in a decent sized house, not huge but definitely not small either. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would feel cramped, but much like you I assume that feeling is there.

Thank God it is turning nice outside and we can get out and social distance in fresh air.  Long walks are great therapy and allow one  time to just think quietly. From the looks of the sidewalks on Olinda Trail ad Old Towne Road others have the same feeling as well.

Last Sunday was a bit of a bummer for us.  We were not able to attend Palm Sunday services because of the stay-at-home order.  This is a monumental time of the year for those who have faith.  It runs into Easter Sunday which will also be spent alone.  No family, no wonderful Easter services just us staring at each other again.  I miss Easter. I miss church. I miss our extended family.  This is going to be weird - and not in a good way.

Speaking of church, as you hopefully have noticed, the last few weeks including this week, local pastors and church leaders are writing guest commentaries to help us through these trying times.  You don’t have to be religious to take away a great message in the writing.  I thank them and look forward to many more.

I am looking for help from you. We are planning on running a piece about local heroes who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight.  We want to publicly thank those among us who are putting care of the sick above their own lives. Maybe you know a nurse that is in the thick of the pandemic, maybe it’s a doctor, a police officer.  We are looking for a photo if possible and a small write up telling us what that person does and we will give them the correct and much deserved thanks.  Please submit your heroes to [email protected]. Thanks and thank you if you are one of those heroes!

We make it a point to order take out food from a local restaurant at least once a weekend.  Since we are staying home so much, we really aren’t spending much money lately so it’s a bit easier to do.  We have had some fantastic meals recently and the restaurants have made it so easy to work with them.  Curbside delivery, pre-payment and always, always a smile.  If you can afford it, try to order a meal or two from a local restaurant. The food is terrific and you are hopefully helping them get through this incredibly hard time.

We should have an end of pandemic hairstyle contest when this is over.  Right now my hair is in the “Dorfis metamorphis” stage and looks like a dog is sitting on top of my head.
