A carpenter by trade, he joined the Twin City Carpenter Local #7 Union the day after he graduated from Humbolt High School. This led to a life long career which gave him the ability, and opportunity, to build his own homes and also for family and friends. Later in his career, he independently contracted his services to Rainbow Foods until his retirement.
He had many titles in life, including: Ammo Sergeant for the Army Reserve, Master Carpenter, Bowhunter, Fisherman, Instructor and Believer in God. Amongst the most important is his title of Family Man. He loved his family with every ounce of his being, especially his wife, Gayl. Their life together was rich with wonderful adventures and experiences; from meeting at a roller skating rink to yearly vacations in Duluth every wedding anniversary; they enjoyed spending time together.
Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gayl (Kloskin); children Alan, Audrey (Jon), Ann (Joe); grandchildren Daniel, Sara, Breanna and Natalie; sisters Marilyn, Carol and his many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Emil Alich and Margaret (Dreis) Alich
A private church service will be held for family. A memorial visitation is offered for family and friends, at their residence, August 15 1:30 - 4 p.m.
Masks are required for this outdoor only event.
