If those voters will continue to be engaged is hard to predict.
The canvassing took place last week and no changes or errors were noted in tallies.
Congressional District 8 incumbent Peter Stauber must be reviewing his campaign strategy in light of DFL challenger Quinn Nystrom chalking up 40,489 votes to Stauber’s 32,733 as he took on the Republican option, Harry Robb Welty in the primary. (Nystrom has the DFL ticket.)
A few northern-most Minnesota counties did state that their vote counts would be delayed, and that the full tally of mailed-in ballots was still in flux, but a gap of several thousand votes is hard to make-up.
Also, MN House incumbent Bob Dettmer, who has represented Dist. 39 for years-- southeast corner of Chisago and over to Forest Lake and Washington County-- had a wake-up call in the primary. Republican Dettmer got 1,553 votes in total, while Democrat Ann Mozey pulled in 3,138 to defeat Chuck Fitzer on the DFL ticket primary. Again, the primary here wasn’t an issue for GOP voters, so perhaps they just didn’t turnout; but Rep. Dettmer may have to up his campaign game.
In Senate District 39 Karin Housely wants to be re-elected (again the southeast corner of Chisago and all of Washington County)and she too got way fewer votes than the DFL primary winner received.
Josiah Hill will be on the ballot for the Senate seat, for the DFL, defeating his primary opposition, earning 6,959 total votes to Housley’s 3,162.
In Anne Neu’s MN House District 32B the incumbent Republican earned 1,539 votes in total. She was facing a challenge for the GOP ticket which should have brought out the Republican voters. Her primary challenger only got 356. But, the DFL candidate Katie Malchow got more than Neu, racking up 1,850 votes.
