Chisago Lakes band student Grace Thoma and marching band boosters set their minds to so some virtual fundraising over the summer, and to help build an account to buy new band uniforms; middle school band instructor, and high school marching band assistant director Steven Boal, offered his hair as the reward.
The goal was $500 which was surpassed and is still growing. Boal agreed he would have his hair dyed if the fundraising goal was met, and he held-up his part of the deal in good spirits last week. The Chisago City salon Rustic Roots, turned his blonde locks royal purple. He is pictured right, with stylist Abby.
Band Booster Mom, Dione Thoma gave a big shout-out to the salon for participating...Booster Dad Josh Jensen, whose son Liam is in the percussion section, says band member numbers are increasing, and marching band uniforms are outdated. deteriorating and there aren’t enough in certain sizes. Chisago Lakes Marching Band, in non-virus times, can make appearances in several summer parades and band members are truly ambassadors for the district, he added. The band has been invited to events all over the country too. Grace is moving on to 9th grade this coming fall, and she was very grateful to have had Mr. Boal participating as part of a memorable summer. Boal said he actually likes the purple, but he wasn’t sure how his own kids were going to react to their technicolor parent. If you care to donate toward new uniforms, send a check to Chisago Lakes Band Boosters, addressed to: Chisago Lakes District Office Lakeside School 29678 Karmel Ave. Chisago City, MN 55013.
