David was born in Lajes Terceira, Azores on October 22, 1954 to Carl and Jane Johnson and was raised in Shafer, Minnesota. After graduating high school in 1973, he joined the US Army and served in Germany. After discharge from the service he worked multiple roles in road construction from 1977 until his retirement in 2013. It was while he was working on Interstate 35 that he met Deb Annexstad and they were married on January 22, 1994 and settled in the Millersburg area.
He will be remembered for his sarcasm, quick wit, sense of humor and political views, but most of all, his passion for riding his Harley and exploring the country. Dave was also a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders.
David is survived by his wife Deb; son Anthony; brothers Richard (Georgie) Johnson and Dennis (Kati) Johnson; sister Elizabeth (Gary) Reese; brothers in law Jeff (Wendy) Annexstad and Scott (Joy) Annexstad; and nieces and nephews, Brandyn, Jake, and Carleigh Johnson, Joshua, Mathew, and James Reese, and Adyson and Jordan Annexstad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jane Johnson; nephew Nathaniel Reese; and mother in law, Rose Hanzel.
Celebration of life and interment will be at Christdala Evangelical Lutheran Church, Millersburg, MN on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 1 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Lonsdale American Legion, the flag presentation will be given by Dave’s nephew, Captain Joshua Reese USAF.
