According to the complaint supporting one count of first degree assault and a second count of assault in the second degree, dangerous weapon, substantial bodily harm, the authorities believe Hiland assaulted Darcy Hiland, 49, inflicting great bodily harm. She is reported to be paralyzed with a partially severed spinal cord. Tyler is also charged for having inflicted substantial bodily harm upon John Hiland, 50, who remains hospitalized with undescribed injuries. They were all at the home they shared in Sunrise when the assaults took place.
North Branch officers responded to the call about 6 p.m. Dec. 21 for medical help. According to the complaint a knife was located on a bed in the house. Tyler Hiland was observed as he opened a service door to the garage and there were blood stains on him. He was arrested and taken to the county jail without incident.
According to the complaint the suspect told investigators he’d used methamphetamine prior to the stabbings.
