Snow brings snowmobile complaints

Area law enforcement agencies are starting to receive the first complaints about snowmobiling violations this winter.

Check your local regulations before you head out. Basically— most areas only allow for snowmobiling on a city street along the most direct route from your residence to a lake or to access a sanctioned snowmobile route.  Respect private property, stay out of cemeteries and off farm fields with winter crops planted or nursery plantings,  and generally operate your snowmobile far away from dwellings.  There are many areas where there’s thin ice and even open water still;  so heed posted warning signs, stay out of channels, and check your route ahead if you are unsure.

December 28 a Lindstrom man was arrested after first having Lakes Area Police search his address and finding marijuana plants and oil and wax he allegedly manufactures on site, and Wyoming Police being summoned to the hospital emergency room when the same suspect was causing a disturbance, about 7:20 p.m.  The man, 28, was arrested in Wyoming, transferred to Lakes Area officers and booked.

December 27 person ice fishing on Chisago Lake hauled a sled of equipment to his vehicle and was heading back for a second load and found it gone. Reported the theft, and responding deputies asked nearby fishermen, who did not see anything, they stated.

A crash reported at Bench Street and Hwy. 8 in Taylors Falls about 3 p.m. No state report available.

December 26 deputies were called to a vehicle fire at #17 and I-35 at the park and ride about 2:15 p.m. No personal injury, driver said he sensed vehicle fire while on freeway and pulled off. Stacy Lent Fire Dept. handled.

December 24 a pickup truck was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived at an address on 475th outside of Harris about 7:35 p.m. Truck overheated when stuck in snow. Driver and passenger were not injured.

December 23 a suspect fleeing Wyoming law enforcement crashed into the gates on Viking Blvd. at the Polaris R & D Center, about 3 p.m. Driver was arrested.

The protective netting at the golf driving range at Hwy. 8 and Green Lake Trail was caught up in a powerline, causing arcing and Chisago City Fire was sent. Along with Xcel the situation was resolved before any real fire was started.  Incident called in about 3:45 p.m.

December 22 a Lakes Area officer was called to a business on Hwy. 8 to speak with store managers about a complaint that patrons inside were not wearing masks.

A two vehicle crash at County Road 14 and Stacy Trail, reported about 6:50 p.m. A southbound vehicle was hit on the passenger side by a car making a northbound left turn out of Stacy Trail. The southbound car hit a hydrant and a dwelling as it was forced off the road. A 38 year old male was cited for ignoring the stop sign.

A business break-in allegedly videotaped on surveillance cameras is under investigation in Wyoming. Wyoming and Lakes Area officers went to the site on Fallbrook, about 2:20 a.m. on report of burglary in progress but the offender had reportedly just left the structure.
