Survived by his children Deborah (Ken) Peterson and Gary (Lindsay) Schulz, 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and brother, LeRoy Schulz. Gordy is preceded in death by his spouses, Bernice and MaryAnn Schulz, his siblings, Richard Schulz, Ione Marincel, Wilbur Schulz, Lester Schulz, LeeAnn Bernardi and his parents Richard and Anna (Kohloff) Schulz.
Gordon was born April 18, 1922 to Richard and Anna (Kohloff) Schulz in Hankinson, North Dakota. He was the fifth of seventh children. Gordy’s younger years were spent working hard on the farm with his brothers where he enjoyed the care of the horses, (“the team”) the most. During his elementary years, he attended a one room school in rural North Dakota. His high school years he attended Wahpeton High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1939. He then attended NDSCS studying an A/C and Sheet Metal Trade. After he completed his higher education (1941) he moved to California to work for the Lockheed Aircraft Factory, making P-38 aircraft. In 1942 he returned to North Dakota and enlisted in the Navy Air Corps. After a short period of time serving, he was honorably discharged due to a broken eardrum. Gordy then worked at Ford Motor Company making war airplane engines.
After the war ended, he pursued his trade at the Minneapolis Public Schools. Here, he met his future wife, and mother of his two children, a farm girl from Dumont, Minnesota, Bernice “Bernie” Lichtsinn. They married June 8, 1945. Gordy and Bernie spent their years together in Minneapolis where both their daughter and son were born. A few years after Bernie’s death, Gordy bought a farm in Stanchfield, Minnesota where he raised beef cattle. Years later, Gordy moved to North Dakota where he spent time as a pig farmer.
When Gordy retired, he married MaryAnn Kohloff. Together they lived in Apple Valley, California where they enjoyed square dancing and other social gatherings. Gordy loved to hunt and fish. He loved his dogs, and enjoyed staying physically active. As MaryAnn’s health declined, he and Mary Ann moved back to Minnesota where they purchased a home in Lindstrom. Gordy was an active Lions Club member, Meals on Wheels volunteer and an active usher in his church. Gordy’s last years were spent in Roseville where he was cared for by his daughter Deborah and granddaughter Hadassah and many others, including loving family members.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom. Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at church on Friday with luncheon served during the visitation. Burial will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens (5125 West Broadway) in Crystal, immediately after the service.
