She passed away December 26, 2019 at the age of 97 in Chisago City, Minnesota.
She attended a rural school in the area. She graduated from high school in Medina in 1940 and went to Valley City State Teachers College and Moorhead State College and graduated with a BA degree in Education.
She taught school in Klum, North Dakota for one year, then married Herman Liberda in Medina Lutheran Church in 1944. Together they taught in Linton, North Dakota, Glendive, Montana, and Medina, North Dakota. They moved to New Salem, North Dakota where Herman was Superintendent of Schools for 7 years.
In 1961 they moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota when Herman accepted a position on the staff of Wahpeton State College of Science. Joy also taught 5th grade at Wahpeton Central Elementary. All total she taught 30 years, retiring in 1984, the year her husband Herman passed away.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband Herman Liberda and brother Dick Eissinger.
She is survived by her children James (Carla) Liberda, Steve (Marie) liberda, and Bonnie (Mark) Matuseski; grandchildren Aaron Matuseski, Emily Matuseski, Darin Liberda, Brent Liberda, Shane Liberda and Theodore Liberda.
