John was born in St Paul, Minnesota on May 29, 1923. He served in the Army during World War II and was in Public Relations for the 12th Air Force and Army Corps of Engineers. He authored many books, and owned and operated Merrill’s Landing for many years renting canoes and fishing boats. He served on the St. Croix Hospital Board in the 1980’s and also on the planning committee for the city of Taylors Falls.
John is preceded in death by his wife Ingrid. He is survived by son Richard “Toby” Holland; long time friend Heinz Latzel; cousins Walter Simonson and Mark Johnson.
Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Taylors Falls United Methodist Church, 290 West Government St., in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Osceola, Wisconsin and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Kahbakong Cemetery in Taylors Falls, Minnesota.
