The Chisago County Historical Society is pleased to announce that a new exhibit is now open at the History Center in downtown Lindstrom.  “Quilts of the Past” is a collection of 25 quilts covering a time period of 150 years. Some of the quilts are from the CCHS collection and others were loaned to the museum by the Amador Heritage Center, CCHS members and volunteers.  In addition to all the colorful quilts in many patterns, the exhibit includes quilted toys, doll quilts, patchwork aprons, sewing machines, sad irons, vintage needle books, sewing items and many informative charts on quilts and quilting.

Of special interest are two very rare Swedish “quiltas” - embroidered wool batts -  from the late 1800’s,  a wonderful Log Cabin quilt from the 1870’s, a unique yo-yo quilt from the 1930’s, a fabulous embroidered signature quilt, an unusual 1900 floral applique quilt with hand-dyed fabric and intricate hand-quilted motifs, and an 1868 Grover and Baker sewing machine.

The community is invited to stop in and take a look.  There are also interesting displays on immigration, early farm tools, medical/optical/pharmaceutical equipment and country schools.

The museum is open from 10-4 on Mon.,Tues., Friday and Saturday during the winter months.  The quilt exhibit will be available until mid-May.
