Chisago County deputies took a local man into custody Monday, June 29 for felony second degree assault after he allegedly discharged a handgun, and smashed a windshield following a “physical dispute” inside the Shafer convenience store.

There was a hold-up alarm from the store clerk about 10 a.m. and a caller on-site informed authorities a man, later identified as Benjamin Juneau, 47,  was engaged in a physical dispute in the store.

When deputies arrived the suspect had left but license plates for his vehicle were supplied and records gave a local address on Quinlan Lane.  Heading to the scene, with SWAT and crisis negotiators, the suspect simultaneously had decided to leave his property.  He allegedly rammed a squad car at a high rate of speed, and three deputies discharged their weapons trying to apprehend him.  He sustained minor injuries in the crash and was arrested.
Juneau is held in county jail, after being checked over at the hospital and released.
