Chisago Lakes Masons (Hiram Lodge 287), along with hundreds of caring community members, raised an impressive $5,926 for Family Pathways’ Chisago Lakes Area Food Shelf. As part of their annual community fundraiser these funds were matched (up to $5,000) by Minnesota Masonic Charities, bringing the total of funds raised to $10,926. Because of Family Pathways buying power and network of food providers, this funding translates into over 33,000 meals.

For more than nine years, Lodge member Brian Hoffman and his fellow Masons have taken the lead in organizing this highly successful campaign to help local families and individuals experiencing food scarcity. He said, “Together we can provide food, and a sense of hope and community to our very own neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet.”

In 2019, the Chisago Lakes Area Food Shelf distributed 201,614 meals to nearly 1,200 individuals who may visit the food shelf 1-4 times each month for non-perishable items, produce, dairy, meats, and personal care items. Of these visitors, 51 percent are either under 17 years old or older than 65 years of age.

Even pre-COVID-19 crisis, Family Pathways’ clients were struggling with food insecurity. Today, the food shelves are not only working to meet the current needs of

current clients but signing up new clients every day. With children at home full-time under the stay-at-home order, the food shelf is also providing additional food for every family. The mobile food pantry and newly created doorstep delivery program ensure that seniors and housebound older adults are receiving the nutrition they need, as well.

For 104 years the Chisago Lakes Masons have rallied the community to join hands and hearts to change lives. Family Pathways thanks Chisago Lakes Masons for their ongoing partnership and for being leaders in generosity and inspiring participation.
