Avis Marie Armstrong, age 88, of Wyoming, Minnesota passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 while being cared for at Parmly on the Lake in Chisago City, Minnesota.

Avis was born on August 10, 1931 in Backus, MN to Bruce and Jessie Bartlett. She resided there with her parents, graduated from high school and moved to St. Paul where she worked various jobs and attended night school to become a secretary.

She met and married Conrad Armstrong in 1953, moved to Chisago City, MN in 1957 and raised six children.  She worked at Chisago Lakes Hospital as a Medical Record Librarian for 30 years during which time she became an Accredited Record Technician (ART).  The last three years of her career were spent in Albert Lea, MN, at Naeve Hospital as Quality Assurance Director. She retired from there in 1991.
Throughout life, Avis was an active community member and generously volunteered time to her church,  schools, local organizations, clubs and associations. She loved watching MN Twins baseball, reading, cooking, bird watching, playing dice, traveling world-wide and best of all, spending quality time with her large family and many friends!

Avis is preceded in death by her parents; three siblings; husband Conrad; son Brian; and daughter-in-law Renee.  She is survived by five children Diane (Dan) Doering, Robert (Bonnie) Armstrong, Mike (Barb) Armstrong, Mary Henderson, Kathryn “Tossie” Armstrong; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three nieces; nine nephews and many extended family members.

Avis possessed an indescribable gift that made every person she interacted with feel like they were part of her family.  Although there is no one word to describe her, those privileged to have been in her life understand!

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom, Minnesota.  Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and one hour prior to Mass, at church.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church or Parmly on the Lake in Chisago City.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grand strandfh.com
