Lent Township dedicates new wing of town hall

Before their annual township meeting Tuesday, March 10, Lent Township held a dedication for the new Birdie Woods Room of their town hall. The project, spearheaded by township supervisor Carolyn Cagle, sought to enclose and update an area of the town hall to be used for wedding showers, baby showers, birthday parties, scrapbooking, quilting, small weddings/receptions, groom’s dinners, gift openings, meetings and luncheons. It provides an affordable option as opposed to renting out the whole hall for a small event.

The room was named in honor of Bernice Woods (above, left of the middle picture) who has been a huge supporter of the township for years and still brings donuts to every monthly meeting, and Birdie Peterson, whose family grew up right across the street from the townhall and who was very involved in the township for over 50 years. Both her husband and son served as township supervisors at different times. Birdie, who passed away in 2012 on the same date as the dedication, was represented by her daughter Mary (above, right of the middle picture) and others from her family.

Cagle said anybody interested in renting the room could call Lent Town Hall at 651-462-3009. The monthly supervisor meetings will now be held in that room as opposed to in the office.
