He was born to parents Charles and Viola Graves on May 2, 1943 in Mankato, MN. After graduating from Sauk Rapids High School in 1961 and St. Cloud State College in 1966, he married Beverly Sefkow in 1967. They moved to San Antonio, TX as Steve began his service in the Air Force. After a return to SCSC and earning a master’s degree in school counseling, Steve began his 30-year career in the Chisago Lakes School District as a high school counselor. Steve loved his job and many friendships with staff, students, and members of the community.
His connections with Hazelden as a volunteer, then employee, after his retirement from the school system, were very important to him.
He was an avid fisherman and always looked forward to his annual trips to Gull Lake.
Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly; children Christine (Ryan), Brian (Kristy), and Jennifer (Ed); grandchildren Ethan, Abby, Emma, Carson, Avery, Reese, and Carlee; brothers Kevin (Carol) and Mark. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his sister Carol.
