The order is lifted, now it's time to help local businesses, green and gold

Well as usual in my column, I write about something and by the next paper it has already happened.  The Governor has gently opened the state up as of Monday morning.

I am so happy we will be able to resume to some sort of semblance in our local economic environment.  Again, to re-iterate, I am by no means belittling the pandemic and its seriousness. I was conveying the seriousness economically and financially of our local businesses.   I would hate to see one business close their doors much less multiple ones.  Who knows, this place could have been one of those.

While the stay at home has been lifted or modified if you will, we do need to be cognizant of keeping those around us safe. Yes it is possible to shop and keep your distance.  I know people hate wearing masks, but if a local business is asking for our compliance, the least we can do is be uncomfortable for a brief minute to help our local businesses out.

This weekend is a big one. Memorial day is this Monday and much like Easter, it will be drastically altered. I am thrilled to say there still will be opportunities to pay our respects, but such as life, it will be under CDC guidelines such as social distancing with abbreviated ceremonies.

VFW Post 1678 and the American Legion Post 392 will be holding programs beginning at 9 am at Franconia cemetery, then traveling to Taylors Falls cemetery and ending at Almelund cemetery.

Chisago City American Legion Post 272 will be holding services Monday beginning at 9:30am at Crescent Beach cemetery, 10am at Memorial Park (Zion), West Green Lake cemetery at 10:30am, South Green Lake cemetery at 11am, Panola cemetery at 11:30am ad  noon at St. Francis cemetery.  There will be no service at the All County Veteran’s Park this year due to space constraints.

There will be no seating and they are highly urging attendees to practice social distancing.  They also ask to please keep our distance from the veterans for safety reasons.

Folks, they know it’s odd. It’s not they way they want to hold Memorial Day but such is life this year.  If you can, come out and honor those wonderful men and women whom have served our great country. It’s the least we can do.

Since the pandemic has squashed any semblance of a normal graduation for our local seniors, there is a movement among business owners and residents to paint the towns green and gold.  The week of May 25 through June 1 you are asked to decorate your homes, mailboxes, businesses, and yards with green and gold.  Any type of decoration will be just fine and appreciated by our seniors.  Thank you for participating.
