Fire Prevention Week is our time to thank those among us; fair time

Fire Prevention Week is our time to thank those among us; fair time

This week is a big week locally.  This is Fire Prevention week.  This is normally a week where al the local fire departments go and visit the schools and show the kids all of the bells and whistles on a fire truck  It is also a week that usually has open houses for the public to come see what their local fire hall has been up to.  It goes without saying that Covid has its say this year and sadly most fire departments have been forced to postpone their open houses until hopefully next year.

Center City Fire Department will still be holding a safe distancing open house and their popular 5K run/walk will also take place.

Their open house will take place Saturday and run from 10am to noon.  They are still having their awesome chili feed, and a pumpkin giveaway, Sparky the Fire Dog. They will have fire helmets for the kids to take home.  The 5K walk/run will take place at 9am with registration at 8:30am.  There is a kids fun run following the race at 9:45am. Both races will begin and end  at the Center City Fire Hall.  They do ask everyone to please wear masks and to social distance. See you there!

To all the other fire departments. I would like to extend a massive thank you from us in the community for all your hard, thankless work over the years. We al take you for granted and a lot of us don’t realize that you while saving our lives and homes also work full time jobs and have families as well.  Please, please know that we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you see a local firefighter, make a point of telling them thank you!

If you remember, I spoke about the Kids Outerwear Fair being held next week at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom.  The fair is for families who find themselves unable to clothe their families with warm winter wear.  First off, if you have some good condition winter clothing you would like to donate please drop them off at the church before Monday.  For those of you who will utilize the fair, they do require that you call 651-257-5129 extension 7 to make an appointment.  They are trying their best to keep this as safe for everyone as humanly possible.  They have tons of gently used coats, hats, mittens, scarves, boots, snowpants and blankets for the entire family.  If you know of someone, maybe a friend or a neighbor who could really use the outerwear fair, please by all means urge them to take advantage of it.  There is no judging, only love.

It seems like everywhere you look there are political signs this year.  Big ones, small ones, hand made ones. Extravagant ones that people have spent a lot on.  But along our road it seems that someone thought it would be neat to litter the ditch with a broken washing machine and then paint it with political propaganda.  Sooo classy...
