North Branch had one themselves, a 69-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Andrew Thauwald to senior tight end Gavyn Jensen-Schneider, but Cloquet had two of them, including a 46-yard passing touchdown and a 47-yard rushing touchdown. Both teams had short scores outside of that, and the Jacks capitalized on all three two point conversions while NB missed both of theirs.
“We need to learn from these things. There were just a couple of mistakes that we can’t keep making, but it’s a process of learning,” Head Coach Justin Voss said. “There’s guys in new positions and it’s just small things that will get better.”
The defense did force three turnovers, but the offense just couldn’t always capitalize on the sudden changes.
“Overall, we did OK on both offense and defense, but there is just a learning curve this year. We moved the ball well on offense at times, but the consistency wasn’t there. Kudos to Cloquet, though. They were well-coached and played tough,” Voss said.
